How To Get Better at Anything

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” ~Scott Adams

I have been paralyzed by the fear of making mistakes and the biggest mistake of all is doing nothing.

I promise you will see many more mistakes on here. I believe the best way to get better at anything is not only to do more of it and make mistakes, you must also get feedback from others.

It is not always easy to find people willing to give honest feedback that will help you grow and get better, but that is all part of the journey.

Having been a member of Toastmasters for more than six years, I know getting up and giving more speeches and taking on leadership roles was the only way to really get better at them. I made a lot of mistakes. I had great mentors to help me along with many others who were learning with me.

When all you do is sit in the audience you can only learn so much. Books will give you knowledge but until you take action on that knowledge it is useless. I’ve been stuck in my books, blogs, and podcasts long enough.

Watch out, the mistakes are coming. My goal is to learn better which ones to keep and create my own art.

Don’t be afraid to tell me what you really think, I have learned how to take criticism and use it to my benefit, but those are stories for future posts.
