Great FREE Android Apps

Share

Google Android LogoI love my Droid and the Android OS.  I decided to create a post here after my friend Marcy asked me what my favorite apps are.   I will not be going into great detail on these apps.  They are free if you install them and don’t like them simply uninstall them.   If you have any other suggestions please leave them in the comments below.

The Android Market on the web is a showcase of some of the top apps.  This is for those who do not have an Android handset with access to the full Android app market.

Not all the apps will have links on this page but you can find them easily if you search the Android Market for them.

ShopSavvy – Barcode Scanner: Scan the barcode on any product and it will give you a list of prices both online and from local shops. You can also scan QR Codes (see example below) and Datamatrix images.

Create your own QR Code or Datamatrix images.

Pandora Radio: Free personalized radio if you already use the online version you can sign in on your phone and have the same “stations” available.

TasKiller free: close (kill) your running applications with one click. I have the “widget” on my one screen for this so I can easily kill one or all running tasks. Or you can take the long route and kill them manually: Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> (wait for list to load) -> (select app) ->Force Stop

AK Notepad: Set a reminder on a note, share via SMS, email etc., pin notes to your home screen, and the list goes on.

Seesmic for Twitter: So far I have found this to be the best free Twitter app out there. They also have versions for iPhone, Desktop and web.

Bump: Bump contact info, photos and Apps

Shazam: Can’t remember the name of the song that’s playing? Fire up shazam and it will tell you the title, artist, album and even give you a link to purchase the song if you want.

ThinkingSpace – Mindmapping for Android: This makes the mind mapping process so much faster and easier.  Pair this with FreeMind, open source cross-platform, mind map software on your computer and you can work on the big screen if you want.

ThikingSpace

Springpad: Springpad makes it easy to save ideas and information you want to remember. Save notes, tasks or lists; scan product bar codes, take photos or geolocate businesses nearby. This app syncs with springpadit.com for instant universal access.

Thanks Trevor! I’ve got Pandora (of course), Shazam and ShopSavvy. I opted for Advanced Task Killer (free), which I absolutely love! Here are a few others that I’ve downloaded, all free:

    Knocking Live Video
    FX Camera (fun photo effects)
eBuddy (supports tons of IM programs)
    XfMobile Lite (Xfire)
    Photobucket
    eBay
and my favorite…Astro File Manager. This app pretty much removes the need to organize your files and folders through Windows Explorer.

I will definitely check out Springpad as well.
